Seventh Broadcast:
"SPELLE * WAVE * RING * SHARDE "
Dutch Radio 4FM broadcast, April 5, 12, 19, 26, 0.00 - 1:00 GMT+1

Introductie

Introduction
The four hours broadcasted in April 2006 all are thematically related to Iceland in some way. The first part is dedicated to Spellewauerynsherde, a project based on (unidentified) Icelandic vocals. The last hour is a walk though Iceland's musical landscape. The two hours inbetween are a 'guided fantasy', loosely based on themes from the first part.
On this page you will find all details about the music.

"I just let it sort of take me along to wherever it needs to go."
Akira Rabelais, december 2005
The first hour is dedicated to Akira Rabelais' "SpelleWauerynSherde", on which he used unidentified icelandic vocals to create an enchanting mix of voice and electronics.
Rabelais, musician and programmer of his own software (the Argeïphontes Lyre, or AL) got these tapes from a friend at the Californian Institute of Arts. They contained more than fifteen hours of intriguing Icelandic vocals.
Some parts were extensively treated electronically, others were almost left as they were.

"Wave" and "Ring" are two parts of an auditive "guided fantasy".
A mix of ambient music, soundscapes and other musical surprises. No track is played completely, but the interaction of the fragments creates a completely new structure.
"These are the instructions for the first time crew.
Listen carefully: they must be followed exactly.
All openings of your garment must be sealed completely. If the integrity of your suit is compromised in any way, if the fabric is torn or zippers not closed, re-admittance will be denied."
(from: "Twelve Monkeys")
"I dreamt I saw my mother coming and call me. But when I opened my eyes I did not see her. It was beautiful, but I was so scared...because...I heard that voice first, but then I remembered that I don't know my mother...But that voice - it's really....that voice is my mother's voice".

A walk in Icelands musical landscape. Can the untouched rough landscapes and the harsh climate be heard in the music of Iceland? Is there any relation between the old songs from the 'Rimúr'-cycle and the characteristic modern post-rock that has become so popular
